Skyhouse is a small, close-knit group of people with very tight connections to each other. Our group is currently small--five members--but may grow to be as large as eight to ten members. The principal mission of Skyhouse is to support and nurture its membership, and we see the "family" feeling of a close knit group as very central to that mission. All Skyhouse members live at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage.
Another important Skyhouse goal is to support and encourage the development of Dancing Rabbit in whatever way possible. It's a unifying element of Skyhouse membership to want to see the larger ecovillage project succeed!
More Info
Skyhouse, named after our original home in Berkeley, California, was formed by six residents of the Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in 1996. Skyhouse serves as one channel for people to become part of Dancing Rabbit as well as a home for those seeking an income sharing, group living situation. Values that the current members of Skyhouse share are consensus decision making, nonviolence, toleration of various dietary preferences, commitment to personal growth and embracing diversity, empowerment of women and all individuals, and desire to learn new ways to live as a model for our ecovillage. Together, we have skills ranging from Web page design and computer programming to strawbale construction and renewable energy installation.
Skyhouse residents enjoy hiking around Dancing Rabbit land and staging and attending parties to celebrate the changes of the seasons, member's birthdays, and a myriad of other holidays and events. We try to spend some time together as a group, both in our weekly meetings and "just for fun"--not always easy to arrange in our busy ecovillage lifestyle!
We are at work on a 6 bed-room two story strawbale house which will be our home and Dancing Rabbit community space. For our income we work various jobs, from telecommuting, to nonprofit office work, to graphic design, editing and layout, to substitute teaching! We are busy working on Dancing Rabbit and starting new businesses to provide for future members, but we still have time to sit around the dinner table, quaff a garden-grown mint julep or two, and sharpen the wit that's surprised many a visitor.
Skyhouse welcomes people of all types to visit or join us. We also appreciate visitors who come to gather and share new ideas, lend skills and labor to our projects or who are considering joining Dancing Rabbit. Please call or write to plan a visit.
